Analysis of hospital admissions due to malignant pancreatic neoplasms in Piauí from 2019 to 2024

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the epidemiology of hospital admissions due to malignant pancreatic neoplasms in the state of Piauí from 2019 to 2024. Using a descriptive and quantitative approach, secondary data were collected from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS). Malignant pancreatic neoplasms are among the most lethal cancers, with a growing impact on public health, particularly in regions with limited access to early diagnosis. During the study period, a total of 822 hospital admissions were recorded, with the highest frequency observed in 2022 and 2024. Most cases occurred in females, accounting for 51.34% of hospitalizations. It is concluded that the high lethality and late diagnosis of this condition underscore the need for strategies focused on early detection, timely access to healthcare services, and public awareness of clinical warning signs, aiming to reduce disease-related mortality.
