The prevalence of childhood rash diseases in different regions of Brazil

Abstract

The study aims to obtain and analyze the epidemiological profile of exanthematous diseases in Brazil, focusing on identifying the incidence by age, sex and race and analyzing the evolution of these pathologies in the five administrative regions of the country. This is a cross-sectional, quantitative and descriptive study. Using the DATASUS data platform and the Tabnet tool, confirmed cases of measles and rubella were analyzed in the five Brazilian regions from 2017 to 2021. The research identified 13,470 confirmed cases of measles and rubella in children aged zero to nine years , with the Southeast and North regions recording the highest incidences. Of the reported cases, 51.30% were male and 44.4% of the children were mixed race. The most affected age group was children under one year old, representing 52.31% of cases. The majority of cases (99.75%) resulted in a cure, with a death rate of 0.24%. Rash diseases, especially measles and rubella, still represent a epidemiological challenge in Brazil, mainly due to variability in vaccination coverage and the influence of outbreaks in neighboring countries. The research highlights the importance of vaccination strategies and continuous monitoring to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with these diseases.
