Abstract

Primary Health Care (PHC) is the gateway to the Unified Health System (SUS), with universal access, and involves health, economic-social development and social participation. For optimal functioning, educational actions and effective communication are essential, requiring healthcare professionals to be prepared. However, patients face barriers in medication adherence and medical monitoring, especially in remote areas. This work investigates the reasons for non-adherence to Basic Health Units (UBS) and identifies factors that influence access to healthcare. To achieve this objective, a systematic review was carried out using the Virtual Health Library, with specific descriptors. The results found highlight challenges in adherence to PHC services in Brazil, including postpartum consultations, hypertension treatment, medication use by the elderly and cases of diabetes mellitus. The effects of telemedicine were also evaluated. It is concluded that the lack of educational strategies and deficiencies in infrastructure directly impact the use of services provided by UBS.
