Grain yield in white oats grown under different sowing densities and spatial arrangements
Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate grain productivity and its components in different arrangements and sowing densities of the white oat cultivar URS Corona. The experiment was conducted in the year 2022 using a randomized block design with three replications in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme, consisting of five sowing densities (45, 55, 65, 75, and 85 viable seeds per linear meter) and spacings of 0.17 meters (conventional) and 0.17 meters between rows and 0.34 meters between double rows (double rows). The experimental units were 4 meters long. The variables evaluated in the experiment were the number of panicles per m², panicle length, panicle mass, panicle grain mass, mass of a thousand grains, and grain productivity. The different sowing arrangements resulted in a significant difference for the number of plants per m², panicle mass, panicle grain mass, and number of grains per panicle, but did not significantly alter grain productivity. The interaction between different arrangements and sowing densities was not significant. For sowing density, all characteristics showed significant differences, with the highest grain productivity obtained at a density of 68.60 viable seeds per linear meter
