Diabetes Mellitus Gestacional: Perfil sociodemográfico e conhecimento sobre o conceito e diagnóstico da doença de gestantes assistidas em uma Unidade de Saúde da Família do Município de Palmas-TO
Abstract
Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is described by a state of hyperglycemia detected for the first time during the gestational period. This metabolic change is due to physiological changes in the maternal organism and can cause serious complications for maternal and fetal health. Given this scenario, this work aims to evaluate pregnant women's knowledge about GDM and the risk factors presented by them for the development of the disease, in a Basic Health Unit in the city of Palmas-TO. The following work is a quantitative descriptive research. Data collection was carried out with 27 pregnant women from a Basic Health Unit, in the city of Palmas-Tocantins, through a semi-structured interview. After data collection and analysis, it was possible to identify that the majority of women interviewed were unaware of the concept, diagnosis, maternal and fetal complications, treatment and prevention/self-care of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus. Furthermore, it was possible to identify that the pregnant women interviewed had risk factors for the disease. Through this research, it is clear that there is a need to develop strategies aimed at disseminating information during the gestational period, considering the maternal/fetal complications that GDM can cause.
