Abstract

For the effectiveness of nutritional interventions for weight loss, it is important to know the determinants of eating behavior, so the use of theoretical models can be useful. The objective of this study was to seek to understand the stages of behavioral changes for weight loss in patients undergoing obesity treatment in primary care. The sample was selected by convenience during consultations with the nutritionist at family health units in Palmas-TO and a questionnaire was applied. 11 patients were interviewed, with a median age of 33 years and BMI 34.85 kg/m². Regarding the time since diagnosis, the median was 1 year, while the age at which treatment began was 24 years. When analyzing the questionnaires, it was observed that 18.18% are in the preparation stage, 45.45% are in action and 36.37% are in maintenance. All patients used at least 3 types of treatment and 100% were individualized approaches. Therefore, it is essential to know the stages in which the patient is in order to adopt strategies that allow the individual to change their behavior and autonomy.
